FAQ
Is The Locust the strongest entity in Steal Or Die?
Can The Locust pull you out of a locker?
How many entities does Steal Or Die have?
Does crouching actually reduce noise?
Does the game really hear my microphone?
Steal Or Die has published the names of exactly two entities. The Locust is the one that does not need to see you. Everything in this file traces to three sources — the official description and promotional card, the in-game tutorial text, and community gameplay — and where the record is silent (speed, health, damage), this page says so instead of inventing numbers.

Who Is The Locust in Steal Or Die?
The Locust is one of two entities named in the official game description; the other is The Hollow. The current description puts four entities in the game in total, with the remaining two unnamed. The official promotional card presents The Locust in grainy CCTV style: a pale, thin humanoid figure at the foot of a red-carpeted stairwell, framed like security footage — a recording marker, a play button, a running timestamp. The visual read is the threat model: it was already watching when you thought nobody was.
What Does the Official Card Actually Say?
Two lines: THE LOCUST and IT HEARD YOU ON THE STAIRS. That copy is the entire official behavioral statement, and it lines up with the tutorial’s own words — the thing that hunts you “hears your footsteps and sees your light.” Read the card as a mechanic description, not flavor text: hearing comes first, and stairwells are called out specifically as the place sound betrays you.

Treat stairwells as exposure. The card’s warning plus the tutorial’s audio rules mean a sprinted staircase is a broadcast — crouch them, and do not linger on the landing.
How Does The Locust Hunt You?
From the tutorial text and observed gameplay, the tracking inputs are:
- Footsteps. The tutorial says so outright, and crouching is the stated counter.
- Your voice. The HUD carries a microphone indicator because the game listens — community gameplay shows it reacting to player audio, matching the official description’s line that the entity hears your voice.
- Your flashlight. “Sees your light,” per the tutorial. A lit beam in a dark room is a pointer aimed straight at you.
- Deliberate noise. From the entity’s side, a creator playing monster complained about survivors whistling and taunting him — emotes, chatter, and objects knocked over all read as beacons.
The scoreboard confirms the stakes: community runs have ended on a “The Locust wins” screen, with the survivors’ unbanked loot gone — dying inside the building zeroes the haul, per the tutorial.

This survivor run is the source of the tutorial text quoted across this wiki — watch how quickly noise turns into pressure:

How Do You Survive The Locust?
Sound discipline, in priority order:
- Crouch inside the building. The tutorial’s instruction, and the cheapest noise reduction available.
- Watch the mic indicator. If it is live, you are audible — mute or go silent the moment you switch to hiding. The hiding guide covers the full toolkit: lockers, vents (bring a screwdriver), and barricade kits.
- Run the flashlight like a trigger. Off by default, on only when you must read a room, off again. Light discipline costs nothing and removes a whole tracking input.
- Respect the stairs. The card told you where it listens. Crouch them, and never sprint a staircase with the entity on your floor.

What Is It Like to Play as The Locust?
Monster-side notes here are general entity play observed on stream — entity-specific data is not published yet. Every match’s entity is a real player — confirmed by the tutorial’s “every match has an entity” framing and by creators realizing mid-run that the monsters are players. From the monster side observed on stream: you hunt by ear, and survivors hand you free pings by whistling, talking, and crashing into furniture. The kit has a stamina bar and a jump with a cooldown, so your pressure is rhythmic rather than constant. One more observed wrinkle: spectators can snitch — dead players watching the last survivors have been seen calling out hiding positions to the entity. If you are the last one alive, assume your spot has an audience.
The Locust vs. The Hollow
Different senses, different counterplay. The Locust punishes sound: crouch, mute, stay dark. The Hollow — full file here — is a close-range crawler whose player sees far less of the screen, punished instead by space and broken line-of-sight. Neither has official stats, so the tier list profiles them by hunting style rather than numbers. The shared survival kit is in how to hide, and the rest of the entity coverage starts from the bosses index.
